As the world switches its focus toward sustainable alternative energies, new markets — like those created by states with low-carbon fuel standards — are emerging everywhere. These new markets provide a tremendous opportunity to help bolster the ethanol industry. Through innovation, ethanol can maintain and expand its place in the market for decades.
It is no secret that ethanol production and distribution make significant contributions to Minnesota’s economy. The ethanol industry contributes $5 billion annually to the state’s GDP and supports nearly 13,000 well-paying jobs.
In addition, Minnesota’s farmers and rural communities are supported by ethanol’s success. Nearly half of all corn grown in Minnesota is sold to ethanol plants. That means while ethanol is cleaning our air and lowering prices at the pump, farmers are reaping the benefits from better commodity prices.
