Sensex down at 57,838, Nifty flat at 17,289
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was at 57,838.86, down by 25.07 points or 0.04 per cent. The blue-chip NSE Nifty 50 index was flat at 17,289.65.
Share market opened today after holiday-shortened week.
The Sensex and Nifty traded in volatile mode in early morning trade on Monday. Both the indexes opened in green after a holiday-shortened week.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was at 57,838.86, down by 25.07 points or 0.04 per cent. The blue-chip NSE Nifty 50 index was flat at 17,289.65, marginally up by 2.60 points or 0.01 per cent today as gains in heavyweight information technology stocks and top carmaker Maruti Suzuki offset losses in banks.
Last week, the Nifty and the Sensex posted weekly gains of 3.95 per cent and 4.17 per cent, respectively, as the markets remained closed on Friday on account of Holi.
STOCKS IN FOCUS
In Mumbai trading, the Nifty Bank Index fell 0.45 per cent, while the Nifty IT index added 1.2 per cent.
