Grand Forks sales tax income surges as pandemic’s economic grip loosens – Grand Forks Herald
GRAND FORKS – In an apparent signal that Grand Forks’ economy is rising from the depths of the pandemic, City Hall sales tax figures show rolling revenue totals are 13.6% higher than a year ago.
The figure makes for a remarkable step toward economic normalcy, especially in light of concerns early in the pandemic that economic shutdowns might gut city and state revenue streams.
January’s sales tax revenue came in at $2.24 million. But the city’s rolling 12-month total — which stretches all the way back to February — comes to about $29.1 million. It’s a 13.6% increase over the previous January’s rolling total, and the highest such 12-month difference since late 2019.
